Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle is one of Japan’s most famous landmarks and played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century. The castle tower is a museum with exhibits on samurai history and offers panoramic views from the top floor. The surrounding park is especially beautiful during cherry blossom season.
Dotonbori

Osaka’s most iconic entertainment district, famous for its neon-lit canal, giant mechanical signs (including the Glico Running Man), and endless street food. Try takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savory pancake), and kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) from the many stalls and restaurants lining the canal.

Osaka’s premier shopping arcade stretches over 600 metres under a covered roof. It is packed with international brands, local boutiques, department stores, and restaurants. The southern end connects directly to Dotonbori, making it easy to shop then eat your way through the city.
Shinsekai & Tsutenkaku Tower

Shinsekai (New World) is a nostalgic district built in 1912, modelled after Paris and Coney Island. The centrepiece is Tsutenkaku Tower – an observation tower with a golden Billiken statue said to bring good luck when you rub its feet. The area is famous for kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) – head to the legendary Janjan Yokocho alley.
Umeda Sky Building

A striking architectural landmark in the Umeda district. The building is two towers connected by a floating garden observatory on the 39th floor, with an open-air rooftop offering 360-degree views of Osaka. The basement houses an atmospheric recreated Showa-era food street called Takimi Koji.

Universal Studios Japan

One of the most popular theme parks in Asia, featuring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Super Nintendo World (with Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge), Jurassic Park, and Minion Park. Express passes are recommended to skip the queues. Arrive before opening time as lines build fast.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine
One of Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines, founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism. Unlike most Japanese shrines, its main hall (honden) is built in a purely Japanese architectural style called sumiyoshi-zukuri, without any Chinese influence. The arched Sorihashi Bridge is iconic for photos.
Kuromon Ichiba Market
Known as “Osaka’s Kitchen,” this lively covered market spans nearly 600 metres with over 150 shops selling fresh seafood, wagyu beef, produce, and street food. Try grilled scallops, sea urchin, takoyaki, and freshly cut fruit sticks. Arrive hungry – this is one of the best places in Osaka for a walking food tour.
Namba Yasaka Jinja Shrine
A unique Shinto shrine famous for its massive lion head stage (12 metres tall) that forms the back of the main hall. The giant open mouth is believed to swallow evil spirits and bring good fortune. The shrine hosts dramatic festivals throughout the year.
Osaka Tenmangu Shrine
Dedicated to the god of scholarship, this shrine is the site of the Tenjin Matsuri – one of Japan’s three greatest festivals (July 24–25), featuring land and river processions with portable shrines, traditional boats, and fireworks.
